The MatataStudio Coding Set is a screen-free coding kit for children aged 4 to 9. It consists of a MatataBot robot controlled by physical coding cards representing directions and commands, with no text or screen required. The child places the cards in the desired order, presses the start button and watches to see if the robot follows the planned route. If the robot ends up in the wrong place, they adjust the cards and try again, which naturally introduces the concept of debugging. The kit is compatible with LEGO bricks for free-form building. It comes with three booklets of progressive challenges, warm-up cards and over 100 stories and challenges to guide learning from beginner to advanced levels.
MatataStudio screenless coding robot, tangible cards, LEGO-compatible and 3 challenge booklets with over 100 stories to learn to code from the age of 4.
The child sets up the playing area with the picture cards, places the MatataBot at the starting point and lays out their code cards in order to reach the objective. They press the big orange button and watch. If the robot takes the wrong path, they remove a card, swap another one and try again. Without realising it, they learn to plan, anticipate and correct – the three foundations of algorithmic thinking.
