The LEGO Education Colour Sensor detects and reacts to 6 LEGO colours at a distance of 4–16 mm. It charges via USB-C and communicates via Bluetooth Low Energy 4 (BLE 4). It is compatible only with the LEGO Education Science kits 5+ (item no. 277842), 8+ (item no. 277843) and 11+ (item no. 277854).

In a Science kit project, you position the sensor opposite a coloured LEGO brick and it identifies the colour to trigger a programmed reaction: changing direction, activating a motor or adjusting a setting. The 4–16 mm range allows it to be integrated directly into builds with no gap between the sensor and the brick being read.
