However, all of these standards have standardized physical properties and performance characteristics that enable protective masks to be classified according to their effectiveness and filtering capacity:
- Surgical masks: 80% of the particles are filtered out.
- FFP1: 80 % of the particles are filtered out
- FFP2: 94% of the particles are filtered out
- N95 and KN95: 95 % of the particles are filtered out
- FFP3: 98% of the particles are filtered out.
